ULI Europe Young Leaders Study Tour 2023 in Athens | Exploring the Transformative Power of Repurposing Real Estate
November 9, 2023
On 18 October 2023, ULI Greece & Cyprus held a site tour and presentation of the Piraeus Tower construction site.
This 34,600 square metre, 22 storey building rises 88 meters above sea level and is located at the starting point of the Athenian Riviera in the heart of the biggest passenger port in Europe. Piraeus Tower was Greece’s most ambitious construction project in the 1970s but has yet to live up to expectations.
The event attracted over 45 professionals from across Greece’s real estate industry and abroad, including investors, financiers, lawyers, architects, valuers, and real estate consultants.
Natalis Petrovits, Senior Civil Engineer at project developer Dimand and Project Manager of the construction site led the tour with Angelos Entmons, Dimand’s Senior Sustainability Manager, and George Giannakoulias, Dimand’s Senior Architect. They gave an enlightening presentation focused on recent progress and developments to come. During the site tour Natalis described the types of material used and the interventions made to the existing building’s frame. He explained its spatial design and the use of automated mechanisms such as the fire safety system and soon-to-be installed innovative electrical and electronic cabling systems.
The Piraeus Tower is the first ‘green’ high-rise building in Greece that will be certified as a model of sustainable design, incorporating the latest environmental methods. The project will host Greece’s first ‘green’ retail and F&B concepts and high-end office space.
We wish to express our warmest gratitude to the Dimand team for creating an unforgettable visit to the Piraeus Tower construction site.
